'Our body has a great capacity to repair itself, only sometimes you’ve got to help it a little.'

“Our research group is developing methods that encourage the body to repair itself. Currently, if something’s gone wrong with a blood vessel, it requires a transplant or artificial blood vessels. Ideally, you want the body to resolve this, using its own material. This plastic tube can help us achieve this. At the moment we’re focusing on the material and the influence of external factors such as forces acting on the tube. We’re not there yet, but we expect it to be used in the future for other tissues or even for repairing entire organs.”
