In 2020 in the Netherlands, an estimated 365,000 people were visually impaired, of whom 87,000 are blind. We set out to develop Nestor, a brain implant that provides blind people with a crude form of vision. An external camera acts as the ‘eyes’ of the system. The resulting video is processed and sent wirelessly to the implant, which in turn is connected to the brain.
